One Warehouse for Marquees and Tents
Tents and marquees need a dry place to wait until they are used again. LEUBE Zelte und Hallen, a company based in Mudau, Baden-Württemberg, in the heart of the Odenwald forest, has therefore built an enclosed, insulated warehouse to store materials. Until now, the material has been stored in a block storage facility using a chaotic system until it is rented or sold. On the other hand, the new warehouse offers much more effective utilisation of the storage space with cantilever racking from OHRA. The order picking process is also much quicker. This is due to the clear storage system with fixed storage locations.
Under wraps
Excessive space requirements and the resulting lack of space and inefficiency led to the decision to replace the existing block storage system with a rack storage system. Three double-sided cantilever racks, each 16 metres long, are now located in the newly constructed Warehouse. With a height of 6.3 metres, the racks offer five storage levels (including base) and therefore sufficient space to store the material required for the tents and halls in dedicated locations. In addition, OHRA installed a 19.2 metre long single-sided cantilever rack on the outside of each of the hall's side walls, where the stored goods are protected from the weather by the protruding roof. The load-bearing capacity of the cantilever arms of all shelving units is 1,100 kilograms and the length is 1,200 millimetres.
Non-uniform stored goods
The different types of non-uniform stored goods posed a challenge: The new shelving must accommodate items of different weights, lengths and heights, as well as in different storage units (cartons, pallets, four-legged shelving). “In practice, it was important for us to store all existing warehouse goods in just one storage system”, says Fabian Bechtold, Managing Director of LEUBE. To make this possible, all storage levels of the cantilever racking were fitted with mesh shelves. This allows items to be stored flexibly and seamlessly piece by piece.
More efficiency in the warehouse
The cantilever racks were erected by LEUBE employees themselves - thanks to their expertise in erecting tents and lightweight marquees, this was no problem at all. "OHRA supported us quickly and an uncomplicated manner when we had questions," says Bechtold. Thanks to the new hall equipped with OHRA shelving, LEUBE can now store the material for tents and lightweight halls in a dry and highly efficient way. Due to the fixed storage locations and easy access to the items stored in the cantilever racking, the storage and retrieval processes are much faster, so that the times for picking project-related individual orders have been significantly reduced. Rack storage also avoids damage to the stored material caused by cumbersome handling in block storage.
