More efficient storage and order picking
With its cantilever rack system from OHRA, the Irish family business Agnew & Co., has been able to save on warehousing space as well as significantly reduce the labour time for order picking. Thanks to the 200 meter long facility with its 6 meter high and 1.2 meter deep racks, the systematic storage of the high quality wood mouldings manufactured by Agnew is now possible.
The company, founded in 1962, is specialised in the manufacture of a wide range of wood mouldings from natural wood. In addition to standard mouldings, the workforce of over 30 also produces individual profiles and specially tailored wood mouldings.
When the original warehouse was destroyed in a fire, Agnew took the opportunity to build a more efficient storage facility. The new warehouse was designed to serve as a space-saving finished goods store and facilitate quicker order picking.
The commission for the building of the new rack facility was awarded to OHRA Regalanlagen GmbH based in Kerpen near Cologne. The company is European market leader and a specialist for cantilever racks. Amongst other things OHRA developed the self-protecting, suspended cantilever rack support, which has set the standard for all of today’s cantilever rack systems. It is deflected in the event of an impact and also prevents damage to the stored goods.
Within three months of the initial inquiry the specialists from Kerpen had already installed the cantilever rack system at the Agnew site. Thanks to the new rack system the warehouse area could be reduced and a systematic storage of the various wood mouldings realised. Co-owner and Managing Director Andrew Agnew: “The ability to systematically store our goods resulted in a considerable reduction in labour time during order picking. Amongst other things, we now use the space made available for the protected loading and unloading of the HGVs.”
